BW-100M Borehole Logging Winch

The BW-100M is a lightweight geophysical borehole-logging winch. It was designed for borehole depth of up to 100 m. The logging cable is a 2.5mm single conductor steel armored cable. The center conductor supplies the power to the probe, and the probe transmits the data to the surface on the same conductor. The basic construction of the winch is an aluminum U channel joined together with support posts at each corner. The winch comes equipped with a hand crank for the manual operation. Two hand-crank speed inputs with a 2 to 1 and a 4 to 1 ratio are provided.

The electrical connection to the probe is made with a 2-conductor slip ring that is totally enclosed inside the cable drum for protection from the environment. The BW-100M has a build interface console (BIN-07). The console supplies the power to the probe and receives the data from the probe and the depth encoder. The data is then reformatted to a standard ASCII format and transmitted to a portable computer via the serial data port. The depth is measured with a calibrated wheel attached to the level winder of the winch. The depth is recorded with a resolution of 1mm.

A build in 12-Volt battery supplies the power for the interface console and the borehole probe. The battery has a capacity of 2.5AHr. The internal battery will power the system for 8 hours of continues operation. The system can be connected to an external 12 VDC battery.
