BW-100 Borehole Logging Winch

The BW-100 is a lightweight portable, geophysical borehole-logging winch. It was designed for borehole depth of up to 100 m. The basic construction consists of two aluminum side plates joined together with aluminum posts at each corner. This is the support for the cable drum. The winch comes equipped with a hand crank for manual operation. A two-speed input with a 2 to 1 and 4 to 1 ratio is provided.

The electrical connection is made with a 4-conductor slip ring, which is totally enclosed inside the drum for protection from the environment. The BW-100 has a build interface console within its frame. From this, a serial connection can be made to a microcomputer for display and the recording of the measured data.

The depth wheel can be used in 3 different mounting configurations. The first is the attachment to the BW-100 winch frame, the second is the clamping to the borehole collar and the third is the mounting on a standard surveyor tri-pod. A build in 12-Volt battery supplies the power for the interface console and the borehole probe. The total system can be run from the internal battery for a maximum of 8 hours of continues operation. The systems can also be connected to an external 12 VDC power source.
